DISPOSABLE CONTACT LENSES

Disposable

Disposable contacts are just like any other disposable hygiene or medical product. You use them on a short-term basis and throw them away after the recommended time period is up.

The lifespan of disposable lenses will vary from brand to brand, but they can last for up to a month.

There are three distinct varieties of disposable contact lenses:

  • Extended-wear disposables are those that the user wears on a continuous basis, even while sleeping. They are then removed after their given lifespan has elapsed and they are replaced with a new pair. This wearing schedule does not require cleaning, which makes them rather convenient.
  • Daily-wear disposables are similar to RGP and PMMA in that they are removed from the eyes each night and cleaned to be reused again in the morning. The difference is that these lenses only last for a short time. It may be a week, two weeks or up to one month. Then they are replaced. They provide much more comfort than RGP or PMMA lenses as they use a soft hydrogel material.
  • Daily disposables are possibly the simplest contact lenses to handle. They require no cleaning and no storage. After each use daily use they will be thrown away in favor of a new pair in the morning. This limits the chance for any cleaning mishaps so the opportunity for an infection is reduced.
